Since probably around 2000, I've been trying to do some form of a cleanse about twice year. Usually, I do this alone or start it off with a small group but then last year I tried it with two others and instead of seeking guidance from a book or plan, I decided to make it my own. And why not offer it out there and see who responds? This was obviously a very good decision, because now the group consists of 12 wonderful individuals, all in different stages of their journey.
Yesterday was day 1 for many of us and psychologically I always find it to be the hardest. Just having to think about food in such dissection makes me want more of it. My motto is balance and I don't respond well to extremes so I have to ease myself into this. The goal is to give up caffeine, alcohol, dairy, wheat, animal meat, processed sugar foods and I'm sure there's something else I'm leaving out. The morning cup of coffee might be the hardest at this moment. I'm officially off it all tomorrow so today I enjoy my last cup of 1/2 coffee/1/2 teechino.
Next weekend will begin 3-days of the Master's Cleanse so I have to focus on each day as it gradually brings me to place where food is a mandatory non-issue. That's usually when all the other "stuff" comes to the surface. Cleansing toxins from your body, is definitely not only about food. That would be pretty easy! If you're like many of us, food is used to deal or mask up what's really going on. When we take those layers away, we are left with the core of ourselves. More to come on that but definitely worth thinking about.
Oh, and I can't forget to mention to all my fellow sugar addicts out there. just one day of not sneaking something rich and sugary has not only brought me down 1 pound but free of guilt. That makes it all worth it!
